THEY'RE JUST LIKE YOU & ME - STAR Magazine 15-21 Nov 2003

THEY'RE JUST LIKE YOU & ME
by Caroline Millington

BRIAN DOWLING

Brian was Britain's second Big Brother winner and now works in TV. The 25-year-old Irish lad hosted SM:tv Live and Brian's Boyfriends, and currently does the voiceover on The Salon. But has he let fame and fortune go to his head or is he just like you and me?

WHO WAS THE FIRST PERSON YOU SPOKE TO THIS MORNING?

"My Mum. My sister's getting married tomorrow - I'm flying home tonight. She's the first one of the six of my sisters to tie the knot and I'm nervous because I'm making a speech!" [ We're happy to report that Brian's speech was great!].

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU USED PUBLIC TRANSPORT?

"Last Saturday. I took the Tube to Clapham South to Leicester Square."

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WENT TO THE SUPERMARKET?

"The day before yesterday. I bought salad, potatoes, chicken breasts, cereal and bottled water. And three giant chocolate-chip cookies - ate them all."

HOW MUCH DO YOU SPEND ON AN AVERAGE NIGHT OUT?

"It depends on where I'm going. If it's a few drinks, then £20-30, but for a meal, obviously a lot more. Tootsies in Clapham is my favourite for good English food - don't give me any fancy stuff because I dont like it."

WHEN DID YOU LAST HAVE A TAKEAWAY AND WHAT WAS IT?

"Last night. I had Chinese - chicken in black-bean sauce, egg-fried rice - and ketchup. I have ketchup with everything."

WHO DOES THE HOUSEWORK IN YOUR HOUSE?

"I live alone, so I do. I have a cleaner once a week, but I end up cleaning before she comes because I'd hate her to think I'm a dirty minger."

WHAT'S THE MOST YOU'D SPEND ON A PAIR OF SHOES?

"Well I once paid £1000 on a pair but that was only because I really wanted them."

WHAT'S THE MOST YOU'D SPEND ON A PAIR OF SUNGLASSES?

"About £150 to £200 for Versace. I hate people who wear sunglasses inside, though. What's that about?"

WHAT WAS THE LAST MEAL YOU COOKED FOR YOURSELF?

"From scratch? Er, I cooked sheperd's pie about a year ago. I usually just buy all my meals from M&S."

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ?

"Oh this will be embarrasing- Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets. I read it for SM:tv Live a couple of months ago I'm not a fan though - it was because I had to play Brian's Brain against Rupert Grint who plays Ron Weasley and I won!"

WHAT SNACK WOULD YOU CHOOSE AT THE NEWSAGENTS?

"Crisps. I love them, any flavour. I like pickled-onion Monster Munch. I love crisps, potatoes and bread - I'm Irish!"

WHAT WAS YOU FAVOURITE GAME AS A CHILD?

"I liked Action Man, Buckaroo, Snakes And Ladders and Guess Who? I still play that with my sisters every Christmas."

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?

"When I went to see Finding Nemo at the cinema. I'm a big baby! I cried in Sweet Home Alabama too."

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE DRUNK?

"Last Wednesday. I went to a Mis-Teeq concert and then went to Heaven night club afterwards and got very drunk on vodka."

WHICH CELEB DO YOU SECRETLY REALLY FANCY?

"Tess Daly! I dont fancy any male celebs. There were times on SM:tv Live when I expected them to be amazing, but they'd be vile. I'd rather have an ordinary guy. I'm nice but they don't fancy me."

The verdict? Almost Brian, but maybe if you flash some cash on cookery lessons you'll be justs like one of us!

Brian will be presenting The Clothes Show Live at the Birmingham NEC from 5-10 December.
