Jeans for Genes wins Celebrity Backing in 2003

PRESS RELEASE

Jeans for Genes wins Celebrity Backing in 2003
August 2003

ACTRESS Amanda Holden has been named as the female face of Jeans for Genes in 2003 while TV presenter Brian Dowling has been named as the male face of the campaign for the year.
Long-term patron Robbie Williams also continues to lend his valuable support to the appeal this year.

Cutting It star Amanda and former SM: tv presenter Brian will help to raise awareness of the campaign during its eighth year in the lead-up to Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 3 October, 2003.

Both celebrities were delighted to accept the campaign’s invitation to back Jeans for Genes and help continue its vital work raising funds for children with genetic disorders.

Amanda, who has also starred in ‘Hearts and Bones’ and ‘The Grimleys’ and is set to star in West End musical ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ later this year, said:

‘I am delighted to have been asked to become a Patron of Jeans for Genes in 2003.

‘Jeans for Genes does fantastic work helping families cope with having a child with a genetic disorder. From raising money for vital research to providing everyday support for families affected, Jeans for Genes is making a real difference.

‘Just by having fun you can help them to carry on making that difference, and carry on bringing hope into thousands of homes around the UK.’

Brian, who shot to fame after winning TV’s Big Brother two years ago, and has since worked as a presenter in children’s television as well as hosting his own makeover show ‘Brian’s Boyfriends’, added:

‘Jeans for Genes is now in its eighth year of helping families around the UK affected by genetic disorders and it has helped thousands of families in that time, improving the quality of life for many, many children nationwide through providing family support services and through providing hope for the future by funding vital genetic research.

‘It’s so simple to take part and it’s great fun to ditch your normal work or school gear for the day and put your jeans on. Please, please encourage your office or school to register and take part and get into your jeans on Friday 3 October.’

Amanda and Brian have posed for Jeans for Genes in this year’s charity T-shirts which are available for sale at www.jeansforgenes.com. One of the ladies’ T-shirts, in white with a blue glittery kiss on the front, is also being sold by Matalan, the UK’s Number One jeans retailer, and the appeal’s lead sponsor and retail partner.

The T-shirt will be sold exclusively in over 165 Matalan stores from early September priced at £6. Matalan will be donating a percentage of the profits of all T-shirts sold to the appeal.

Matalan will also sell a second T-shirt in aid of the campaign throughout its stores.
