Lads be 'aving you! Sun TV Mag 24.5.2003

Brian Dowling is aiming to turn faulty fellas into perfect gents.

Just imagine what it would be like to have a new and improved version of your partner. That's exactly what's on offer for some lucky ladies in makeover show, Brian's Boyfriends.

Hosted by Big Brother 2 winner Brian Dowling, each episode of the 13-part series sees the openly gay TV star surprising a less- than-perfect boyfriend. He then fine-tunes them - improving their dodgy dress sense or bad dancing - according to their partner's wishes.

Finally the couple go on a date to see if Brian's worked his magic.

"This is the first makeover show just for guys, and they were all up for it!" reveals Brian, 24, who also presents SM:tv Live.

In the first programme, Brian's mission is to transform Simon Robinson, 33, from Essex. His girlfriend Charlie's gripes include him always wearing black and that he only tans from the waist up

"Mind you one of the funniest episodes comes later in the series," reveals Brian. "The girlfriend was sick of her fella stripping off when he got home drunk. He would always trip over in the bedroom.

"So we got two pros from wacky Austrian strippers Adonis Cabaret to teach him how to strip properly. I wanted to have a go myself but the crewe wouldn't let me!"

Brian, who hails from County Kildare, Ireland, and now lives in south London, admits he'd like to find a boyfriend of his own. He was last linked to Spanish model Pablo, who he met while taking part in Celebrity Streetmate.

"Pablo wasn't my type," he reveals. "Still, I've been so busy lately, I haven't had time to think about dating someone new. But maybe I'll find that special chap soon."
